This page is for miscellaneous perennials, including bulbs, that I do not have a page dedicated to. The bloom times listed span from the earliest the individual plant has begun to bloom through the latest it has continued to bloom in my garden; it does not necessarily bloom the entire time. Though I occasionally allow a few seed-heads to form, deadheading (removing spent blooms) prolongs blooming and uses less of the plant's store of energy. In propagating perennials from seed, many require stratification (a cold period); winter seed starting is generally effective.

Lily of the Valley is the flower representing the second anniversary, so he drove around to all the local nurseries looking for it. Most don't sell it. A lady overheard him asking for it and why, loved what he was doing, and offered him a start from her garden. He followed her across town, and as she dug a start, he immediately recognized it from our garden. I did plant it amongst my own, but have to say, the story is the best part of this gift. |
