In the xeriscape world, Sedum are among the top rulers. Though they prefer full sun, many will do fairly decent in shade. If they receive too much moisture, they can develop fungal issues and center rot. There are cold hardy Sedums and Sedums that are grown as house plants in cooler climates. It does not take much imagination to to figure how many of the common names were given. Common names include Live Forever, Showy Stonecrop and Stonecrop.
Propagation of Sedum is easy and will give confidence to even the most novice gardener. Not only are they easily propagated by division, but by cutting. Simply cut a stem and put it in soil and you will soon have a flourishing new plant. I have found that some newer cultivars of Sedum do not thrive as well and are more prone to fungal problems. Others, such as Sedum acre and Sedum album can become extremely invasive. |
