Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’
common names include Contorted Filbert, Corkscrew Hazel, Harry Lauder’s Walking Stick shrub hardy in zones 4-8 full sun April-May, October-November bloom Not necessarily the most attractive shrub in the summer, especially when the Japanese beetles are attacking it, but its twisted stems provide winter interest. I recently saw one pruned up, similar to a multi-trunked tree, and it looked good enough that I decided to prune mine that way. It is a very attractive way to show off the contorted growth year round. |
