This page is for miscellaneous perennials, including bulbs, that I do not have a page dedicated to. The bloom times listed span from the earliest the individual plant has begun to bloom through the latest it has continued to bloom in my garden; it does not necessarily bloom the entire time. Though I occasionally allow a few seed-heads to form, deadheading (removing spent blooms) prolongs blooming and uses less of the plant's store of energy. In propagating perennials from seed, many require stratification (a cold period); winter seed starting is generally effective.
Galanthus nivalis
common name Snowdrop hardy in zones 3-8 full to partial sun POISONOUS! propagated by division, seed February-April bloom Snowdrops are so delicate they hardly stand out, but they naturalize and form attractive drifts. This is another plant that made its way into my garden perhaps by way of a bird. |

Lilies add a lot of bold color to the garden. By removing the anthers (where the pollen is produced) you can prolong the life of the bloom by preventing pollination. As the flowers begin to open, simply pull them off. This also helps to prevent stains, especially if using the flowers in cut flower arrangements. Lilies require full to partial sun. They are easily propagated by division, but many tend to revert through time. Most Lilies are poisonous.
